February 2018 Events

Feb. 15th - Litter Poster Contest, 4th & 5th grades begins.

Feb. 24th -Athens Pick-up Day, city litter pick-up 10 am-12 noon. Meet at Athens Municipal Building at 9:45 am for supplies and instructions. 


Learn more about Keep McMinn Beautiful’s efforts to provide our residents with environmental education and information to create a clean, litter free community in which to live, work and raise our children. Keep McMinn Beautiful board members strive to educate and encourage McMinn County residents to take an active part in their community through recycling workshops, educational programs for adults and children as well as being an informational resource for all things green. We welcome new volunteers and are always looking for ways to partner with local businesses and industry.

Keep McMinn Beautiful's Programs

January - Tree Sale.  It is the perfect time of year to plant a tree.  Help Keep McMinn Beautiful programs and purchase a native tree for your yard.  

February - Adopt-A-Street. Join other businesses, churches, and civic groups to be a part of the litter solution.  Pick a street or road that you would like to pick up at least four times per year and get recognition for your organization.

Poster Contest - NOBODY TRASHES McMINN COUNTY - 4th and 5th grade students. Feb. 15 - March 23.

March - Monthly litter pick-ups.

April - Etowah Household Hazardous Waste Event - usually first weekend in April.

  Great American Clean-Up.  It's your time to shine! This week coincides with Earth Day each year.  We hold week long events to promote a cleaner McMinn County.  April 16 - 26, 2018

May -  Tennessee Wetlands Festival/Moofest - Saturday May 5, 2018, 10 am to 4 pm at E G Fisher Wetlands on Ingleside Avenue. Join us for a celebration of the wetlands.  Joining with MooFest, we will have hands on community activities for all ages.  Crafts. food, children's activities, ice cream eating, frozen t-shirt, mooing and milk chugging contests.

            Tennessee Wesleyan College "Dump and Run".  Annual Event that gives students a chance to recycle their old stuff when they move out the dorms for the summer.

June - Monthly litter pick-ups.

AugustTelephone Book Recycling.  It is that time to recycle your old telephone books at the recycle center. 

OctoberHousehold Hazardous Waste Collection. Typically the first Saturday in October at McMinn County High School.  Great way to properly dispose of your household chemicals. 

Annual Trash Bash - Industrial Challenge.

November -  America Recycles Day.  November 15.  Annual National Event through Keep America Beautiful.  Keep McMinn Beautiful takes it one step up and holds a week long event at the recycle center to celebrate recycling.

December - Cardboard Boxing Day.  Held Annually the first Saturday after Christmas.  Keep McMinn Beautiful Board Members will assist residents in recycling all that Christmas packaging.
